Fiji Swimming is focusing on the development of our young swimmers.
This saw the start of the 2020 season with the Long Course Grand Prix 1 at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Suva, yesterday.
Fiji Swimming general manager David Dugu said this was part of their development program
Dugu added that this is where they monitor the swimmers as they prepare for the 2020 XIII Oceania Swimming Championships in Suva, which is the qualifier to the Tokyo Olympic Games in July.
“This is the first event of the year and we have representatives from all nine clubs participating,” he said.
“We have two more grand prix before the Oceania, so clubs are at this competition to measure their performances and then adjust their training and other support plans.
“We ultimately will prepare for the nationals later in May.”
Dugu said they would be looking to send a big team to the Oceania Championship.
“This is also a form of cost-saving and our selection criteria for the Oceania is yet to be given out.”
More than 200 swimmers were part of the one-day event.
