Good Year For RFMF Rugby

Jubilant Republic of Fiji Military Forces rugby captain Sireli Ledua dedicated the 20-17 Ratu Sukuna Bowl win over Police to their comrades and family.

“Before leaving the camp today I told the boys that we’ll have to return with the Sukuna Bowl,” the former Flying Fijians hooker said.

“I want to dedicate the win to our mates serving overseas and our beloved family.”

Ledua said this had been a good year for them as they won all the major rugby competitions they played in.

“Especially winning the Sukuna Bowl challenge after we lost it last year.”

The RFMF side also successfully defended the International Defence Rugby Competition in Japan.

“I want to thank our sponsors Fiji SUN for their endless support to the team. I want to thank the boys for their hard work and dedication have paid off with another Sukuna Bowl win.”

Army stuck to their game plan and used their big forwards to execute their set-pieces right from the start as they controlled the tempo of the game.

They took a 3-0 lead through a Jeke Suguturaga penalty before Police equalized when Kini Douglas also kicked over a penalty.

RFMF took the lead again when prop Vesi Rarawa crashed over for the first try with Suguturaga adding the extras.

A Police blunder saw RFMF winger Gabirieli Matakiviwa pounced on a loose ball to score their second try with Suguturaga making it 17-3 at halftime.

Police hit back at the second half with a try to Eremasi Radrodro, which was converted as they trailed 17-10.

RFMF’s continuous pressure saw Police being penalized with Jone Manu converting it for a 20-10 lead.

Police scored their third try to replacement hooker Ratunaisa Navuma with the conversion going over.
